A calm winter sky flared orange as this parakeet crowned a temple figure, unbothered by the evening bustle. The long tail drew a clean line through the glowโone still moment before the flockโs last circuit at dusk.

Field Guide
โข Identification: Bright green body; long tapering tail; red bill; male shows black chin-strap with pink nape ring (seen here).
โข Habitat/Diet: Farmlands, groves, city gardens, temple compounds; feeds on grains, fruits, flower buds, and seeds.
โข Breeding: Mostly DecโApr in South India; nests in tree cavities and wall crevices, often around old buildings.
โข Range: Common and widespread across much of the Indian subcontinent; adaptable and gregarious.
โข Look-alike tip: Larger Alexandrine Parakeet has a maroon shoulder patch; Plum-headed Parakeet shows a maroon/blue head; Malabar Parakeet is bluish with a black bill.
